Beginner SEWING Patterns
Because everything is cuter in miniature, here’s our kids size version of the Denton Dungarees. These are great for durable playwear, as well as the mini-me photo opportunities. The adjustable tie straps also leave some room to adjust as they grow. The instructions and tutorial are the same as for the adult pattern, it really is an adorable mini version!
Perfect for beginners, with no zips, buttonholes or tricky hardware, the Denton Dungarees are a wardrobe staple that's easy to sew and customise. The work-wear inspired look prioritises comfort and utility, but offers lots of scope for creativity and fun. You could go for a classic denim, a breezy linen, or a bold printed canvas. Even a plain denim can be jazzed up with some contrasting patch pockets - dead easy even for a beginner, and that big bib pocket is just begging for a gorgeous print.
The simple tie shoulder straps make adjusting the fit a breeze and add a charming, homemade detail; while more experienced sewers can easily adapt the pattern to whatever hardware details they desire. The high back design provides a secure fit and clean silhouette from behind, and from a practical point of view, you have pockets galore.

The Fishbourne is an easy to wear pinafore dress with a flattering square neckline, in seam pockets and a relaxed fit for comfort. It just slips over your head as there are no zips or fastenings.
Make up in a light cotton poplin or lawn for summer. In Autumn/Winter try a needlecord or mid weight denim and wear with a long sleeved T or polo neck. Make up in a woven fabric with some stretch in it if you want a more snug fit.

Suitable for beginners, this is a really flattering & comfortable dress with V neck, in-seam pockets and a pleated skirt.
Make up in a light cotton or linen for sultry summer days or go for a heavier weight linen, denim or wool mix for Autumn/Winter.
You can get a different look by adding patch pockets, shortening the skirt or omitting the sleeves.

This is an Extended Sizing version of the Amberley Dress. It is identical to the Amberley apart from the extended sizing range and the addition of a bust dart.

The Mayfield is an asymmetric jacket with a neat collarless design that makes it super simple to put together.
The pattern is suitable for most heavy fabrics like linen and denim, but can also be made using ready quilted fabric for a cosy but light jacket. Perhaps quilt your own fabric to make yours unique? Kantha quilts also work well.
Our instructions & video explain how to make the jacket with denim, linen, etc. which require a facing. The quilted version is an option, for which you omit the facing (skipping a lot of construction steps) and instead bind the edges with bias binding.

Saltdean is a loose fitting tunic dress or top. Make up in light viscose or polyester crepe for a soft drapey look or a more crisp linen or linen/wool mix for the cooler months. Great beach cover-up in summer. Use something twinkly for an evening out or make up as a top with jeans and belt.
The kimono sleeves means no sleeve insertion is required - great for beginners. Includes optional in-seam pockets and belt.

The Midhurst is a classic A Line skirt pattern. Everyone needs one in their wardrobe. A casual make in denim or a smarter evening look in a rich brocade.
