How To Print A0 and A1 Sewing Patterns That Are Split Across Multiple Files
We supply a range of PDF Sewing Patterns in various formats. While many people print these at home on A4 or US Letter paper, we also provide A0 and A1 files that are intended for copy shop printing.
This has the advantage of giving you large format prints that are equivalent to pre-printed paper patterns, but you retain the flexibility of having a PDF that you can print again as required.
A0 PDF Sewing Patterns in Single Files
A0 PDF patterns can come in various formats. Some have all the A0 pages in one file, with each sheet of A0 being a separate page in a single document.
Some PDF pattern printing websites only support this format of pattern and only allow a single file to be uploaded. Typically you’ll be asked to upload the file and to enter the number of pages it contains in order to calculate pricing.
But what do you do if your pattern is split across multiple files?
A0/A1 PDF Sewing Patterns in Multiple Files
We, along with some other pattern companies, supply our PDF patterns in multiple files, since it helps to reduce paper waste and printing costs by using A1 files instead of A0 when a full A0 sheet is not required.
An A1 sheet is half the size of an A0. So for example, a pattern might be one A0 sheet plus one A1 sheet, rather than being 2 A0’s with half the second A0 being wasted space.
Printing Multi-File PDF Patterns Online (or Locally)
The simplest way of printing A0/A1 PDF’s that are in multiple files is to use an online (or local) printing service that supports multiple file uploads.
If you have a local copy shop you can usually choose between taking your files along on a USB Stick or emailing the files to them.
For online options, some PDF pattern printing websites that support multiple file uploads (in the UK) include:
Combining Multiple PDF Files Into One File
If you really want to use a specific printing service that does not support the upload of multiple PDF files, another option is to use a website or app that can combine multiple PDF files in to one.
There are many such options available. A reputable one is Adobe, who’s online Adobe Acrobat site allows the upload of multiple PDF files that can then be saved as a single file.
When you visit the site you may need to close a pop-up window prompting you to buy the full product - but you can just close this window - the PDF combining feature is free to use.
You can find it here: https://acrobat.adobe.com/link/acrobat/combine-pdf
Depending on which pattern printing service you wish to use, you may find they print A1 pages onto A0 paper, so you’ll not benefit from the cost and paper saving benefits of the A1.
